SECTION 504 ANNUAL INFORMATIONAL NOTICE 

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination against a person with a disability in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.  The statute defines a person with a disability as anyone who: (1) has a physical or mental impairment (such as learning, self-care, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, working and performing manual tasks) or a major bodily function (such functions include immune system, normal cell growth, digestive, bowel, bladder, neurological, brain, respiratory, circulatory, endocrine, and reproductive functions);  (2) has a record of having such impairment; or (3) is regarded as having such impairment AND the impairment substantially limits a major life activity

In order to fulfill its obligation under Section 504, Big Horn County School District #2 recognizes a responsibility to avoid discrimination in policies and practices regarding its personnel and students.  No discrimination against any person with a disability will knowingly be permitted in any of the programs or activities in Big Horn County School District #2. 

The Big Horn County School District #2 has specific responsibilities under Subpart D of Section 504, which include the responsibility to identify, evaluate, and determine the eligibility of students suspected of having a disability.  Eligible students have the right to appropriate educational placement and services, the right to notice, and the right to review relevant education records. 

If the parent disagrees with the determination made by the Big Horn County School District #2 the parent has a right to a hearing with an impartial hearing officer.
